Full Hunters Moon 2018

Hunters moon

Full Hunters Moon

This will be the Hunter’s Moon.  Many moon names are tied to seasons.  Such as the Harvest and the Hunters Moon. The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox .  The Hunters Moon is the full moon after the Harvest Moon, the full moon closest to the autumn equinox.

The Hunter’s Moon with leaves falling and the weather crisp, is when the deer are fattened and it is time to hunt. Since the harvesters have reaped the fields, hunters can easily see smaller animals that have come out to glean the leftovers of the harvest.

As October draws to an end it is a good time to think of releasing, letting go.  The 2 weeks after the full Hunters moon brings us into a release cycle. It is time we to clear out things in our life that no longer serve us or do us good.  Make way for new things, idea and projects to be put into action for the Harvest of next year.  Finish up, throw out or donate the projects stuck away for “someday I will complete”.

Ask yourself, do I still need to keep that painting Uncle Joe did and gave to Mom who left it to me?  The one that I have always hated?   Usually we know it is not healthy nor productive for us to hang onto things, thoughts.  But we don’t want the discomfort of letting go ie change.   And with much memorabilia there may be a touch of guilt.

Often we hang onto things and people as a way of protecting ourselves from loss or pain. But sometime the pain or discomfort of letting go is better than the pain of holding on to things that no longer serve our greater good.  This can be relationships that have run their course or that favorite sweater, Yes, you know the one–it has holes in it.

Of course, just because it is a Full Hunters Moon does not mean to make big decisions impulsively.  A slower process  might be easier to digest.   Try doing it in small increments. After all, we do not want to throw the baby out with the bath water.  Nevertheless, by merely giving this consideration, we will and can progress, whether in small or large steps.

But maybe it is also the fear of the unknown of a new path that holds us back and lets us hesitate.   But think of it as making way for new things that will help you to expand, have less clutter and be able to see and enjoy what you do have!!!!

If need be light a white and then a red candle the day after the full moon to remind you to not be afraid of “not having”.  If it serves no purpose, what is the purpose?
