Winter Solstice 2018 Cold Full Moon

Winter Solstice 2018 is on Friday December 21, 2018 although the Full Cold Moon is visible that evening
however, the Full Cold Moon is not at its prime until the next day around 2:23 pst so you will have to check the times in your area.  Interestingly enough the last time there was a full moon on Winter Solstice was 2010 and there will not be another Winter Solstice Full Moon until 2094!!!!!  Be sure to enjoy this and you may also get a bonus of some meteor showers depending on your area.

 What is Winter Solstice?

The word Solstice is from the Latin word for sun –sol and to stand still–sistere. Winter solstice is when the Sun’s path has reached its southernmost position then next day the path will move northward. For a few days before and after the Winter Solstice, the change is so minute it seems to “stand still”.  At high noon on Winter Solstice the sun is directly overhead at the latitude called Tropic of Capricorn.

 Traditions

There are many traditions that go with the Winter Solstice both new and old. They are from many countries and backgrounds.
One such tradition is “Frau Holle” a Scandinavian Tradition.  Frau Holle is known as the feminine spirit of the woods and plants. She is associated with many of the evergreen plants found in Winter such as Mistletoe and Holly. Frau Holle was honored as the sacred essence of earth and land. She is sometime seen as an aspect of Frigga, wife of Odin. Her feast day is actually December 25th!!!
And is the Goddess of home and hearth!!
Winter can inspire both joy and woe. It is a quiet time, and the Winter Solstice is a time to honor the changing of the times. Breads, nuts, ciders, and mulled wines all remind us of home and warmth. Honor your past, delight in your future. And have a blessed Winter Solstice.!!!

 Full Cold Moon, release cycle

As this is the full cold moon, it takes us into a release cycle. The cycle of full to new, waning, removing, releasing. It is the last release cycle of the year.
On the day after the Full  Moon, let go of all your fears , doubts and old doss to make room for the blessings of 2019!!!
If need be, remove the obstacles preventing you from moving forward with a bit of candle work.
You will need
1 white
1 green
These are the 7 day glass jar candles
Think of what you want to remove or just “remove all obstacles” interfering in forward positive movement in 2019.
Light them and let them burn. White first for protection, green for the manifest. Let burn until they go out. I place mine outside in a draft free area, or safe place.  Place on a pie plate with a bit of water in case of tipping or cracking. If you must put them out, relight as soon as possible. Do not blow them out, extinguish them with a snuffer or simply place a saucer over the top for a minute.

Bright Blessings, Blessed Solstice and Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
